Here we are, come to the end of 2021, and I thought it would be a good time to make some New Year’s resolutions for 2022. I am not normally one for making resolutions like this, but I am trying to establish a New Normal - as is the whole world - and one of the things I most want to do is be more intentional in my life. Some of these are more realistic than others, but I believe in all of them. I present them in order from most realistic to least realistic in my completely subjective opinion.
1. Write a blog entry every two weeks
I feel that the practice of writing is important. I don’t really think anyone is going to read what I write. I don’t look at the hits on this website, and I think that is healthy for me. But I need to be in better practice making structured arguments and thoughtful, introspective prose. No better way to do so than here.
2. Daily Exercise
I need to be better about systematic exercise. I plan on figuring out a 20-30 minute routine I can do in my office in the morning, and being better about taking walks.
3. Weekly Praise
Gratitude and appreciation are important things. I work with a number of excellent people, and I have some fantastic humans in my life. I don’t think that there is enough praise for people. I might do so on social media, in a meeting, or in person - but I think adding to the positivity of the world is worth it. When, and to whom, I praise I’ll write on my calendar to keep myself accountable.
4. UTC or GTFO
I believe it is a worthwhile experiment to try moving entirely to UTC and not observe daylight savings time anymore. I would see things shift around me, but the items on my schedule that I control would stay fixed. Can I do it? Only time will tell (ha ha ha).
5. Lose 15 pounds
Who doesn’t want to lose weight?
Happy New Year to all!
